Facebook ads cost in NZ.

Meta sells ad space in an auction, so you set the budget. A sensible start for a local New Zealand business is about $500 to $1,000 a month paid to Meta, plus management.

How the Meta ads auction sets Facebook ad costs in NZ

Meta does not publish a price list. You choose a daily or lifetime budget, and Meta spends it by bidding for each ad view against every other advertiser trying to reach the same people.

Each time someone in New Zealand scrolls Facebook or Instagram, Meta runs an auction for the ad slot. The winner is not simply the highest bid. Meta weighs your bid against how likely that person is to take the action you asked for (a click, a lead form or a purchase) and how relevant and well received your ad is. A clear, useful ad can win views more cheaply than a weak ad with a bigger budget behind it.

That is why the same budget buys very different results for different businesses. Your price per result moves with your audience (a small town costs differently to all of Auckland), your industry, the time of year, the campaign objective and, most of all, the quality of the ad and the page it sends people to.

Meta charges the card or account on file as you spend, and you can pause or change the budget at any time. Nothing is spent beyond the budget you set.

Facebook ads cost in NZ: CPM, CPC and cost per lead

These are published benchmarks for New Zealand from the last 12 months. Treat them as a rough guide only: they are medians across many accounts, they swing a lot from month to month, and your own results will depend on your offer and your ads.

01

CPM (cost per 1,000 views)

Monthly medians of about $12 to $51 One dataset puts the NZ median at about 21 (currency not stated) for July 2025 to June 2026, ranging from about 12 in March 2026 to a spike of 51 in August 2025. Another NZ guide, using a separate ecommerce dataset, reports about US$9 (roughly NZ$15.60) in March 2026.
02

CPC (cost per link click)

About $0.60 to $1.60 The NZ median cost per click ranged from 0.59 to 1.56 over the 12 months to June 2026, averaging about 0.92 (currency not stated), about 14% below the global average in the same dataset.
03

Cost per lead

About $25 to $55 Across all industries, NZ cost per lead averaged about $38 from July 2025 to June 2026, ranging from about $25 to $55 by month. The figure covers all industries combined, so your own trade may sit well above or below it.

Sources: Superads NZ CPM, Superads NZ CPC and Superads NZ cost per lead (median figures from the company's own advertiser dataset; the CPM and CPC pages do not state a currency, so those figures may be in US dollars); Horton Taylor, How much does a Facebook ad cost in NZ? (July 2026). All checked October 2026.

The figure that matters is not the CPM or the cost per click but the cost of a real enquiry or sale, compared with what that customer is worth to you. A $60 lead is expensive for a $50 product and cheap for a $5,000 job.

Minimum sensible Facebook ads budget in New Zealand

Meta lets you start with a few dollars a day, so the technical minimum is not the real question. The useful question is how much you need to spend for Meta's delivery system to learn who responds, and for you to see enough results to judge the ads.

Creative costs for Facebook and Instagram ads

The ad itself is the biggest lever on what you pay per result, and it is the cost most budgets leave out. Meta rewards ads people stop for, and ads go stale as the same people see them again, so you need a steady supply of new images and short videos rather than one polished ad.

01

Your own photos and phone video

Often the best performer for local businesses: real jobs, real staff, real products. The cost is your time, plus editing and copywriting.
02

Designed static and motion ads

Built from your existing photos and brand. Usually included in a management fee or charged per batch of ads.
03

Professional photo or video shoot

Worth it for a launch or a product range, but quoted separately by photographers and videographers. Get the shoot planned around ad formats (vertical Reels and Stories) so the footage can be cut into many ads.
04

Landing page

A page that matches the ad usually converts better than a generic home page. Our Meta ads setup includes one; on its own, a single landing page is a separate web cost.

Facebook ads management fees in NZ

If an agency or freelancer runs your ads, their fee sits on top of the ad spend paid to Meta. NZ providers price it in three common ways.

01

Flat monthly fee

About $500 to $1,500 a month + GST The typical range NZ agencies and freelancers quote for local service businesses. Published NZ packages we checked range from $299 to $1,695 a month, and what is included varies a lot.
02

Percentage of ad spend

Commonly 10% to 25% of spend Cheap at small budgets but grows as you spend more, which gives the manager a reason to push your budget up. At low spend it can also mean very little time is spent on your account.
03

Set-up fee

Often a one-off charge Covers the ad account, pixel and Conversions API tracking, audiences and first campaigns. One NZ agency publishes set-up fees of $499 to $1,799 + GST. Check whether creative and a landing page are included.

Sources: Horton Taylor (NZ fee range); Mata Digital and Jelly Digital (published NZ packages); Linear Design (percentage pricing). Checked October 2026.

Whichever model you choose, ask who owns the ad account and pixel, what tracking is set up, how many new ads you get each month, and what the monthly report shows. A report should give you spend, enquiries or sales, and the cost of each, not just reach and likes.

Facebook ads cost questions

How much should a small business spend on Facebook ads in NZ?
Enough to get a meaningful number of results each month. For a local business that is usually $500 to $1,000 a month to start, and we set our minimum at $1,000 so there is room to test and retarget. Work it out backwards from what a customer is worth to you and what you can afford per enquiry.
Are Instagram ads cheaper than Facebook ads?
They are bought in the same Meta auction from the same ad account, and Meta can place one ad across Facebook, Instagram and its other placements. Costs differ by placement and audience, so it is usually better to let Meta spread the budget and judge on cost per enquiry than to pick one app in advance.
Is boosting a post the same as running Facebook ads?
Boosting is the simplest form of Meta ad. It is quick, but it offers fewer objectives, less control over targeting and weaker tracking than a campaign built in Ads Manager, so it rarely gives the lowest cost per enquiry.
Do Facebook ads in NZ include GST?
Meta charges 15% GST on ads for New Zealand businesses. If you are GST registered, add your GST number and legal business name in the ad account's tax settings so the invoices let you claim it back.
Are Facebook ads or Google Ads better value?
They do different jobs. Google Ads catch people already searching for what you sell; Meta ads reach people before they search. Many NZ businesses run both. Our Google Ads cost guide covers the other side.
How long before Facebook ads show results?
Some campaigns bring enquiries in the first week, but the first few weeks are usually the most expensive while Meta learns and weak ads are replaced. Judge a campaign on a couple of months of data, not a few days. We do not promise results or timeframes.
